Mergers and Acquisitions Literature Review
Nick Milner, Milner LLP's Managing Partner has undertaken a review of literature on mergers since 1967 from academic and consultancy sources to determine what makes mergers a success or failure.
The emphasis in this report is on what makes mergers work (in the post acquisition phase) and includes the relevant literature on mergers, acquisitions and JVs.
In the "depression" year of 2009, the top 10 M&A deals all exceeded $1billion in value (Brodkin (2009)). So it seems timely to investigate what must be done to ensure these deals deliver the benefits expected.
The report shows that there are recurring issues which are key to improving the likelihood of success in a merger.

Milner LLP Acts as a Mentor for the Martlesham Innovation Centre Incubator - Kastra
Milner LLP is one of Martlesham Innovation Centre's first mentors. This provides emerging enterprises with a fabulous opportunity to work with Milner LLP's consultants, who will provide knowledge of business strategy and marketing and show how this can be harnessed to achieve financial success.
As part of the Martlesham Innovation Centre, the new Incubator, named Kastra, will nurture technology companies in the early stages, providing rent-free office space for the first six months, as well as practical support and advice to help them develop their products, identify their customer base and get their product to market.
In a recent article published in the East Anglian Daily Times, Nick Milner said “It gets them on the learning curve very quickly, ... it’s about understanding who your real customers are and what market you’re in, right through to the practical aspects of developing the product and taking it to market".

Marketing Secrets of Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley is an area of land about 25 miles long and 10 miles wide, and is approximately 45 miles southeast of San Francisco. The original companies that grew up here were all based in one way or another upon the semiconductor which gave rise to a new name for the area: "Silicon Valley", a term coined by Don Hoefler in 1975.
This presentation describes the history of Silicon Valley from 1891 when Governor Leland and Jane Stanford gave land for Stanford University to be founded. The history includes Hewlett Packard, Google buying 15 month old YouTube for $1.6bn and the Apple launch of the iPhone.
